Creative team building at Too Good To Go Belgium

I partnered with Too Good To Go to test out how collaborative mural painting can be turned into a team building activity. The project went really well, the TGTG employees loved the process of painting a food-themed mural in the kitchen of their office in Ghent.

Preparing the team building activity

The first step of preparing the team building mural was that I asked the whole team to fill out a survey. I asked them question about their story as Too Good To Go, their values, what’s important to them, their goals, some inspiring stories, inside jokes, etc. We then organised a small workshop when I sat down with a few of them and we continued the discussion based on the survey.

With all of this information, I created the final design. I included a lot of different foods and people eating, as well as some key messages and a hidden phrase in the middle. We agreed on when I would come ot Ghent for the actual painting event.

Painting day in Ghent

I few weeks later I arrived to Ghent with a bag full of painting materials. I drew the sketch on the wall with the help of a projector, and then the people started painting. In small groups of 3-4, they started painting colour by colour, based on the numbered areas of the design. Each group painted for about 90 minutes and by the end of the day, the mural was ready!

Feedback from the participants

It was a really nice process and the Too Good To Go guys were quite happy with the result. Here is how the participants have summarised the experience:

“I’m super happy to have been able to be a part of it! If I could have, I would have painted all day honestly!”

“I loved getting to use the “creative side” of myself. It wasn’t stressful at all, I wasn’t worried about messing up anything because everything was so neatly prepared!”

“It was very relaxing and fun to do something totally out-of-the-box for a few hours during a normal working day. It was exciting to see the progress we made throughout the day and I could feel the positive energy among my colleagues while we were getting creative together.”

“Every time I step into our kitchen, I’m reminded of what a cool place we work at!”
